National Fulfillment Services, a division of Metro Supply Chain Group has concluded an agreement to add PigeonShip to its growing roster of direct-to-consumer fulfillment options.

Utah-based PigeonShip launched in 2012 with the simple delivery concept of “finding people who are going in the same direction” and quickly became a same-day delivery force with clients that include FTD and Kroger Groceries. The company recently adapted their peer-to-peer platform to solve on-demand delivery needs for a wider range of fulfillment and supply chain clientele.

Metro CEO, Chiko Nanji, is excited about this partnership. “PigeonShip has a platform that works for fulfilling delivery across specialty businesses where same-day has always been a reasonable expectation. As same-day becomes a standard for mainstream retail fulfillment in metropolitan centres, we look for partners and technologies that have the ability to level that playing field.”

In the past several months, Metro has consolidated its consumer-focused fulfillment capabilities by partnering with other last-mile innovators, including Penguin Pick-Up and PUDO. “Peer-to-peer technologies such as PigeonShip are not only effective at matching supply with demand,” says Tony Jasinski, Head of Business Development for Metro E24, “they also offer significant cost advantages that pass to our retail fulfillment clients.”
